Mood Recognition Based on Upper Body Posture and Movement Features

چکیده
While studying body postures in relation to mood is not a new concept, the majority of these studies rely on actors interpretations. This project investigated the temporal aspects of naturalistic body postures while users listened to mood inducing music. Video data was collected while participants listened to eight minutes of music during two sessions (happy and sad) in a within-subjects design. Subjectively reported mood scores validated that mood did differ significantly for valence and energy. Video analysis consisted of postural ratings for the head, shoulders, trunk, arms, and head & hand tapping. Results showed significant differences for the majority of these dimensions by mood. This study showed that certain body postures are indicative of certain mood states in a naturalistic setting. Automatic recognition of body postures can thus lead to one of the first unobtrusive mood recognition systems, which will help in the development of emotionally smart technology.

Recognition of dance-like actions: memory for static posture or dynamic movement?
Dance-like actions are complex visual stimuli involving multiple changes in body posture across time and space. Visual perception research has demonstrated a difference between the processing of dynamic body movement and the processing of static body posture. Yet, it is unclear whether this processing dissociation continues during the retention of body movement and body form in visual working m...

In this chapter, a nonverbal way of communication for human–robot interaction by understanding human upper body gestures will be addressed. The human– robot interaction system based on a novel combination of sensors is proposed. It allows one person to interact with a humanoid social robot with natural body language. The robot can understand the meaning of human upper body gestures and express ...
متن کاملCritical features for the perception of emotion from gait.
Human observers readily recognize emotions expressed in body movement. Their perceptual judgments are based on simple movement features, such as overall speed, but also on more intricate posture and dynamic cues. The systematic analysis of such features is complicated due to the difficulty of considering the large number of potentially relevant kinematic and dynamic parameters. To identify emot...
